Intro to Bob Ross

Bob Ross needs no introduction to most people. He is the soft spoken artist on telly who paints happy clouds, mountains and trees in about 26 TV minutes. He uses a lot of big brushes and tells the audience that they can paint just like him. Bob Ross is the most recognized and watched TV artist in history. His TV program 'THE JOY OF PAINTING' has been shown continually since 1982 and is regularly picking up new viewers, captivated by Bob Ross' ease of manner and hypnotic style. Bob Ross has fast become a cult figure throughout the world and people watch his show for a variety of reasons. Many viewers tune in because they find his presentation therapeutic.

Bob Ross was borne in Orlando, Florida and began painting at the age of 18. He joined the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. Having watched a TV artist called Bill Alexander, he took various art courses and eventually developed his own quick style and unique 'Bob Ross Wet-on-Wet Thecnique'.

The first of his 'JOY OF PAINTING' shows was shown in 1982 and to this day they are still being aired by nearly 450 public TV stations in the USA. Outside of America, the programs are being shown in the UK, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Germany, Turkey, Hong Kong, The Phillippines, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium and Austria.

Response to Bob Ross is overwhelming. Literally hundreds of letters and emails pour into the Bob Ross company's headquarters every week from all corners of the world. The rehabilitating powers of the Bob Ross method is well known and has been used to help troubled youngsters, disabled people and senior citizens. Bob Ross was proud of the fact that while art wasn't accessible to everybody, Bob Ross's technique is available to everyone. Bob himself has been a guest on "The Joan Rivers show" and has been interviewed on numerous other programs.

Bob Ross was responsible for devising all of the brushes, paints and other equipment for this technique. There is a wide range of instructional materials, books and DVDs available. There is a Ross style Flower technique and even a Ross style Wildlife method, all in keeping with Bobs  original    'easy-does-it' approach.

At the moment there are over 3,000 Bob Ross Certified Ross Instructors (CRI) across the planet, all spreading the word of Bob Ross.
