THE BOB ROSS STORY
Bob Ross has brought the thrill of oil painting to thousands of people who have never before painted. His use of wet-on-wet technique, with unconventional brushes and knives, has revolutionised the art of oil painting.
Bob Ross is proof that wet-on-wet methods allow for individual freedoms of style and expression. The distinguishing colours and details in Bob’s paintings add a new dimension to this unique form of art.
Bob’s soft-spoken charm has captured the hearts of many. Spend one minute with Bob and it is easy to see that his painting is more than a hobby, it is a means of expression, a philosophy of life.
Following his retirement from the military, and after only one year of teaching throughout the United States, Bob Ross was asked to produce an instructional public TV series. From there, “THE JOY OF PAINTING” has grown to such an extent that nearly 300 stations are now committed to showing the programmes.
Bob was born in 1942 and raised in Orlando, Florida. Bob gives credit to his mother for instilling in him the love of nature that is so evident in his work. For eleven of the twenty years Bob spent in the military, he was stationed in Alaska. It was the incredible Alaskan landscape that kindled Bob’s enthusiasm for the art of oil painting.
Bob always attributed his success to dedicated practice, continual innovation, and the ability to share his passion for painting with others.
